Comment: I had not used this hotel for three years. In that time, standards have slipped. A formerly excellent restaurant in the hotel has closed. The breakfast menu is limited and service (other than buffet) was slow (25 minutes and then we got poached instead of fried eggs). Long waits at the elevator. And so on. Overall, it's still OK but no longer offers the high quality guest experiences it once did. Overpriced now for what you get.

Comment: I stayed at this hotel as a special treat for my birthday - and a special treat it was! As soon as we arrived the service was top class. All the staff we came into contact with over the weekend couldn't be more helpful. The hotel, room and bathroom was spotless and lovely. MiniBar was well stocked and plenty options available. The spa/swimming pool area was lovely. Overall this is one of the best hotels I have stayed in - and in a beautful location in Edinburgh. I would definitely hope to visit again!

Comment: Service was very good, staff was helpful but rooms were very noisy, the size of the rooms were good but the views were terrible, one was facing a wall. I would recommend the hotel to a friend but would tell them to make sure they got a room on an upper floor.

Comment: Room was larger than expected, staff made us feel very and explained everything in detail. Breakfast was great as well as the restaurant staff. It would be helpful if public areas were identified - the lovely drawing room would have remained unseen had we not asked. A log fire would be nice in there as well. Would certainly go back - and the room rate was superb!

Comment: Had a most enjoyable stay at the Scotsman. Could not say a bad word about anything. From the moment we arrived we were greeeted with exceptionally charming, courteous and friendly staff. The room was very comfortable and breakfast was first class. Before arriving I had read some terrible reviews about the hotel and quite honestly I think these people must have been staying in another hotel. I will certainly have no hesitation in returning to the Scotsman or recommending to my friends. Thank you for a lovely stay and please extend our thanks to all staff.

Comment: unfriendly and unattentive staff, especially at breakfast, dusty rooms although cleaned daily, charged horrendous amount for nibbles coming along with a bar drink, no greeting of guest when staff is crossing the guest during the day
